Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met Saturday evening with President Shimon Peres and told him that he has succeeded in putting together a governing coalition.
"As you know, I have succeeded in assembling a government," Netanyahu told Peres at the outset of their meeting.
"You assigned the task to me, and I carried it out. We stand before a decisive year in security, the economy and attempts to advance peace, as well as the will of Israeli citizens to effect change. In this government, there is cooperation."
"I believe that we will be able to bring a new message in all fields to all of Israel's citizens," Netanyahu said. "This is my mission and I know that it is also your prayer."
Peres thanked Netanyahu and said, "I witnesses the difficult birth pangs in the process of putting together the coalition, and I congratulate you on succeeding in putting together the government in time. The task of assembling a government is complex and requires huge efforts and great ingenuity. I congratulate you and the new government and hope that you will be able to start working."
