MK: If Court Lets Zoabi Run, We'll Change the Law
MK Danny Danon (Likud) said Thursday that he hopes and believes the High Court for Justice will approve the decision by the Elections Committee to disqualify MK Hanin Zoabi from running for the 19th Knesset.
"It was not a hard struggle," he told Arutz Sheva. "All of the facts show that she betrays the state of Israel. Her photos on the Marmara spoke for themselves. We hope that the Supreme Court next week gives a clear message that people like that do not belong in Israel's Knesset."
Danon estimated that despite the pessimistic forecasts being made by some, Zoabi would indeed be barred from running. "We are not against Arabs being in the Knesset, but people who are collaborators with Hamas and Hizbullah, or stand in a minute's silence for the memory of [Hamas terrorist] Jaabari, do not belong in the Knesset. If they are not disqualified, then who will be disqualified?"
MK Danon said, however, that if the court does overturn the Committee's decision, he will amend the law in the next Knesset. "If they do not disqualify her, I will pass the Zoabi Law," he vowed. "There is no reason to leave the law as it is. We will build a new mechanism to protect Israeli democracy."
