Deri to Netanyahu: Show Us the Budget Cuts
Aryeh Deri, one of the heads of Shas’ Knesset faction, has called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to reveal his planned 2013 budget cuts.
The public deserves to know, Deri told Arutz Sheva. “Even if the cuts are necessary, the public must know what will be cut,” he said.
“These elections are a national referendum on the budget for education, social welfare and employment,” he continued. “The budget is a policy tool that influences how society looks, and society should be the one to determine.”
Deri took part Tuesday in a conference in Sapir College in Sderot. During the event he spoke about hareidi enlistment in the IDF. Shas supports finding a solution through dialogue, he said.
“The Arab community also needs to enlist, via civilian service within their own communities,” he opined. “Hareidim want to go to civilian service, too.”
More and more hareidi men and women are seeking higher education, he said. “There are 7,000 hareidi students,” he noted.
When it comes to military service and employment in the hareidi community, “It’s easiest to mouth slogans,” he added. “We are practical.”
