The top political pundit for Channel 2, Amnon Abramovich, has penned an article calling for the Attorney General and Legal Advisor to the Government, Yehuda Weinstein, to go to war against the next coalition, which Abramovich believes will be the most right-wing ever.

Abramovich begins his Yediot Aharonot op-ed by lauding Weinstein's success in stopping various items of legislation proposed by the previous coalition, including proposals to split the powers of the Attorney General himself between an Attorney General and a Legal Advisor to the Government.

The outgoing coalition, he says, was a "nationalistic, aggressive, shameless" one, the likes of which no Attorney General had ever had to deal with. "Weinstein defeated it," he notes. "The next coalition may be more toxic. Yisrael Beyteinu is now coupled with Likud, and its warhead is composed of Danny Danon, Yariv Levin, Ze'ev Ekin and [Moshe] Feiglin.

"This combination will force the Attorney General to enter the ring with murder in his eyes," he states.

Abramovich is not "balanced out" by a nationalist pundit on Channel 2, which is the more widely watched of Israel's two commercial television channels. He has openly advocated media manipulation of politicians for political aims – most notably in the case of Ariel Sharon and the "Disengagement" plan. He famously called on journalists to abstain from attacking Sharon in the lead-up to the withdrawal from Gaza, and to leave him as untouched "as an etrog," the citron fruit that is featured in the Sukkot holiday.

Etrogim are usually kept in cases, couched in soft material, to prevent any damage or blemishes.
