The spiritual leader of the Shas movement, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, is suffering from extreme pain in one of his legs.
As a result, he has had difficulty walking from his home to the synagogue in which he prays every day, which is located one floor under his home in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Prayers for his health were held during the Sabbath services. It was not clear Saturday evening if he would be able to deliver his weekly lesson.
The leadership of Shas is to decide in the coming week who will head its list for the 19th Knesset – Eli Yishai or Aryeh Deri. Deri is seen by many as having leftist views, while Yishai is a right winger.
