A CNN Poll Monday said that the majority of Americans supported Israel's actions in Operation Pillar of Defense.

The phone poll conducted by the network, using a scientifically determined sample, showed that 57% of Americans were in favor of Israel's attacking the Gaza Arab terror infrastructure. Only some 25% were opposed to it.

In an analysis of the poll results, the network said that the poll results fell along specific segments. Four out of ten people who identified themselves as Democrat party voters were opposed to the operation. Three quarters of those who identified themselves as Republicans were in favor of the operation. Older people, and men, were more likely to favor Israel's activities, with younger people and women less likely to approve of the operation.

The poll also showed that 60% of Americans sympathized with Israel in general, while only 13% sympathized with the Palestinians. The rest had no opinion or preference. According to CNN, the pro-Israel figure that the poll listed has been about the same for the past decade or so.
