A 75-year-old woman was hit by a car on Tuesday morning on Ussishkin Street in Bnei Brak. Passersby who saw the woman run over took immediate action, lifting the vehicle off her before paramedics arrived.

Paramedics from Ichud Hatzalah arrived a short time later and took the woman to a local hospital.

The woman was run over by a car driving in reverse, said paramedic Yisrael Gigi. The woman suffered many injuries, he said.

On Monday new data showed a drop in the number of traffic accidents in September 2012 compared to earlier in the year. There were 766 car crashes in which people were injured during the month – a 1.1% drop since January.

Eighteen of the 766 accidents were fatal, and in 84 of them at least one person was seriously injured. A total of 1,448 people were hurt.
