The IDF Civil Administration demolished the synagogue and mikveh (ritual purification bath) at Migron Wednesday, despite a request by the Chief Sephardic Rabbi, Rav Shlomo Amar, to spare the structures.

Rav Amar had sent a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu asking that the synagogue and mikveh be spared from destruction. Instead, he asked that they be transferred to a new location, as had been done with several such structures when the communities of Gush Katif were destroyed in 2005.

The rabbi requested that the Prime Minister "give a clear instruction not to harm the synagogue and the mikveh during the eviction," but his request was to no avail.

The Head of the Bnei Akiva Yeshivas, Rav Chaim Druckman, reacted with pain to the demolitions. "They say that the destruction is being carried out in the name of the rule of law, and I say that these are the rules of Sodom. It is the evil of law. No one would have dared demolish a mosque even in the name of the rule of law."
