In a brash show of chutzpah, Attorney General and Legal Advisor to the Government Yehuda Weinstein has informed the Head of the Knesset's State Control Committee that he will not attend the discussion regarding the establishment of a body to supervise the State Attorney's Office.

MK Uri Ariel (National Union), who heads the committee, said that A-G 's participation in the session was confirmed by his bureau a month ago, and several times afterward. Weinstein called off his participation and said, "I have something else to do."

"The Attorney General's behavior is despicable', wrote MK Ariel. "It is unthinkable that because the subject in uncomfortable for him, we will do anything he feels like doing… This is an escape from responsibility and from criticism."

The Attorney General and Legal Advisor to the Government has come under attack from nationalists in recent weeks over the way the State Attorney's Office undercut decisions by the cabinet.
