The IDF halted all training in the Golan Heights Monday after a soldier in the Tank Unit was critically injured in an accident.

He apparently was standing or walking in a location too close to a tank, which began to crush him before the tank commander could stop the vehicle.

The soldier was rushed to Haifa’s Rambam Hospital, where doctors are working to save his life.

The training exercise involved the Tank and Infantry units. Training will not resumed until officers examine safety rules and how the accident happened.

Hundreds of soldiers are involved in the routine three-month training, which is to conclude in mid-October.

Three weeks ago, a Border Police soldier was killed in a training exercise in Judea and Samaria after a bullet accidentally was discharged from his weapon.
