Communications Minister Moshe Cachlon (Likud) placed his signature Wednesday on a new law obligating internet and cellphone service providers to provide their clients with free and efficient tools for filtering obscene and otherwise harmful sites and content.

The law was proposed by MK Alex Miller (Yisrael Beitenu).

The communication and content providers will also have to inform their clients of the existence of harmful sites and content in general, and specifically as regards content that can harm children. They will have to inform the clients of the different ways available to block access to such sites and content.

"The change will enable parents to receive free information and tools for filtering harmful sites, both for their computers and for the cellular phones, in order to protect their children," Cachlon stated.

The internet and cellphone service providers are to inform their clients of the dangers and solutions in four ways: a printed brochure, advertisement on their website, a notice in the contract and information transmitted by the customer service representative.
