Security officials revealed Wednesday they have arrested a gang of six northern Jerusalem Arab terrorists who have attacked Jews as well as Arabs suspected of cooperating with Israel.

The gang operated in the Issawiya neighborhood, located at the foot of French Hill. Many of the neighborhood's residents work at the nearby Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital.

Operating under the name of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the gang has traumatized Jewish motorists with brutal rock throwing and firebomb attacks that have caused serious injuries. In several cases, motorists narrowly escaped death at the hands of attacking mobs.

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) said the gang also attacked security officers.

The investigation of the gang’s terrorist activities began in May, and officials said they uncovered a revolver and ammunition. One of the terrorists admitted that he bought and possessed a rifle.

The gang members met and received instructions from leaders at a building in the neighborhood, where attacks on Jews and Arab collaborators have become routine.

The leader of the gang, Madkhat Tarak Ahmed Mohammed, previously served jail time for shooting attacks on Jews but was released three years ago. He was arrested a second time and was jailed for a year.
