Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat was on hand for a special ceremony on Tuesday evening, in which the old city walls were lit in pink to raise awareness for breast cancer.

On Thursday, the city will be hosting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

“Jerusalem is a proud host of the event tonight and the race on Thursday,” said Barkat. “I welcome people from all over the country to come and walk with us in the Susan G. Komen race this Thursday.”

He added that “Breast cancer affects everyone, regardless of religion or race, and being aware could save more than one person. A person who saves one Jew it’s like he saved the world entire.”
