In what seems to be a wave of anti-Jewish violence in Ramle, a home was attacked with a brick on Saturday as its occupants were enjoying a Shabbat afternoon meal. By miracle, no one was hurt.
“On Shabbat we had a Shabbat meal here at home with some friends from Ramle, from the neighborhood here,” Reut Gorodetsky, a resident of Ramle and a member of the city’s Torah core group, told Arutz Sheva. “All of a sudden we heard a very very loud exploding sound. The neighbors from upstairs also came down because they were also very scared. I told my husband and his friend to go outside and see what’s going on. They went outside and saw a brick, like the ones you see on sidewalks, that deliberately hit our door.”
She added, “We are assuming that it was done by Arabs who live here, because it’s been going on for the past year and a half: harassment towards many families that have moved here. The children were behind the door at the time and it was our luck that the lock was in place because otherwise the door would have opened right on them.”
Gorodoetsky said that her neighbors called the police, but the officers said they cannot do much and suggested the family place security cameras near the home to catch future harassment on camera.
“The neighborhood is originally a completely Jewish neighborhood,” she said. “As time went by Arab families came here, but the neighborhood is still mostly Jewish. What happened is that younger families came. Most of the Jewish population here is older. Families with children came, and I guess the Arabs see this as some sort of threat. I don’t know what the deal is. We came here to bring the synagogues to life and strengthen the Jews who live here.”
The incident occurred on the same week in which Ramle resident George Sa’ado was walking his dog when he was shot and murdered by a group of local Arab teens.
A neighbor who found Sa’ado before he died reported that Sa’ado said his attackers had told him they had shot him “because of what you are doing in Gaza.”
The suspected shooters are youths from the Arab Jarushi crime clan that resides in Ramle. Police have refused to categorize the attack as a terrorist incident, but Sa’ado’s sons said on Sunday they do not buy the explanation that the murder was of a non-nationalist background.
"The state has an interest in saying it was criminally motivated so they do not have to spend money on compensating terror victims," Saado’s son Naor told Arutz Sheva. "Mayor Yoel Lavi also wants to keep it criminal so people do not say that there is terror here. Everyone has an interest. But the truth is my father's last words."
Sa’ado’s other son, Noi, noted, "A man will not walk 500 meters after he's been shot and think of what he is going to say when he sees people. It is the truth that came out."
Arutz Sheva has noted that police seem to be consistently attempting to portray terror attacks as ordinary criminal events or even accidents.
