The Fresh AgroMashov 2012 exhibition, recently held in the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds, featured the Israel Exotic Fruit Society, presented an array of exotic fruits, all of which were grown in Israel.
“We have two major places where exotic fruits grow,” Reuven Moser, member of the Israeli Exotic Fruit Society, told Arutz Sheva. “One is on the east side of the Carmel, where there are 250 kinds of fruits. The other one is in the agricultural faculty in Rehovot.”
Among the exotic fruits grown on display were several types of bananas, including a blue banana which has a sweet-sour taste, and a banana that tastes like an apple.
Another exotic fruit is one called jackfruit, which can reach a weight of 30 to 40 kilograms. The jackfruit has a sweet taste, said Moser. The fruit itself is located underneath the shell.
Moser explained that the Israel Exotic Fruit Society is trying to adjust the exotic fruits to the Israeli climate so that they can be grown in Israel.
