Jewish headstones at a cemetery in Bushnell, Florida were vandalized over the weekend, the Associated Press reported.

Several headstones in two sections of the Florida National Cemetery, which were identifiably Jewish, were pushed over or dug out. The headstones were marked with the Jewish Star of David.

Detectives in central Florida are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, fueled by anti-Semitism.

Sumter County Sheriff's Office detectives started their investigation into what happened to the headstones Monday, the Associated Press noted.

The Florida National Cemetery is run by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
