"Yarchei Kallah" in its orignial meaning, denotes a concentrated month-long study program held twice yearly during the early fall and spring, when agricultural workers had less work to do, meant for people who do not normally have enough time during the year to study. The tradition dates back to Talmudic times when it began in the Babylonian yeshiva at Sura and was revived by Rav Shlomo Yosef Kahaneman of Ponevezh Yeshiva 50 years ago.
