Police arrested six nationalist activists early Thursday, accusing them of participating in the protests at the IDF Ephraim Brigade base several weeks ago. Police say the six organized efforts to prevent IDF and Civil Administration officials from entering Ramat Gilad several weeks ago, blocking roads and organizing demonstrations against the troops.
During the protests, police said that a number of protesters entered the IDF base adjacent to Karnei Shomron, located next to Ramat Gilad, and vandalized it. Police said that an IDF officer was hit in the head by a rock during the melee.
The detainees are residents of Yitzhar, Horsha, Mitzpe Avichai, and Jerusalem. The arrests took place in several towns in Yesha, and in Jerusalem. Several days ago, a resident of Karnei Shomron was arrested in connection with the protest.
Police said that the six did not actually enter the base, but did organize the group that did. They were being questioned Thursday morning. Police will decide during the course of the day whether to extend their remand.
