A sixth Hanukkah candle was lit Sunday at the Kotel (Western Wall) Plaza. The ceremony was attended by a large audience despite rain. Rav Shmuel Rabinovich, Rabbi of the Kotel and Holy Places, told attendees that 10 million people visit the Kotel every year.

Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat took part in the candle lighting.

Rav Shmuel Rabinovich expressed appreciation and gratitude for the efforts made by the police to safeguard the security of visitors to the Kotel and eastern Jerusalem.  Without police's 24-hour a day vigilance, he said, it would not be possible for 10 million people to visit the holy site annually.

The rabbi also thanked Mayor Barkat for his partnership in developing the Kotel Plaza and preparing it for taking in millions of visitors.
