Judea and Samaria leader Danny Dayan denounced Monday night’s “shameful” break-in and vandalism by youth at an IDF base.
The actions last night “are shameful and disgraceful,” said Dayan, chairman of the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria. He telephoned Col. Ran Kahane Tuesday morning to express his shock at the confrontation instigated by approximately 50 youth who vented their anger over a rumor that the police and the IDF were about to demolish another Jewish community. As of Tuesday morning, no such destructions took place.
Dayan expressed his gratitude to Col. Kahane for the military’s efforts to keep Judea and Samaria secure for Jewish residents and called on those responsible for the break-in and damage to turn themselves in or face immediate arrest.
Former Yesha leader Pinchas Wallerstein said those responsible for the action should not call themselves "settlers or religious Jews".
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Opposition leader Tzipi Livni, National Union Knesset Member Uri Ariel, rabbis and leaders from the entire political spectrum also condemned the violence.
