Are police covering up Arab attacks on officers in Jerusalem? A resident of French Hill says he saw a police vehicle badly damaged in a mob attack, but that the incident did not make the nighttime news broadcasts.

Shlomi Daniel told Arutz Sheva that he saw the police vehicle at the entrance to the Arab neigbhorhood of Isawiya. It was clear from the state of the vehicle that it had been attacked by several people, he said.

The police van was positioned in the exact place that a Jewish deliveryman was attacked by an Arab mob one month earlier when he accidentally entered the neighborhood, Daniel said.

In recent months police have avoided entering Isawiya, he added. Residents of French Hill have repeatedly called on police to improve safety by cutting off a road leading directly from Isawiya to their neighborhood, he added, but to no avail. Residents of Isawiya continue to come to French Hill regularly and make trouble there.

He questioned why the public was not informed of the latest attack on the van, and postulated that police deliberately covered up the incident in order to avoid embarrassment.

Following Daniel's statements, police commanders confirmed to Arutz Sheva that a police van was in fact destroyed by an Arab mob near Isawiya. The incident took place as officers arrested suspects inside the neighborhood, they said. They did not explain why it was covered up.

An investigation is underway, they added, and there is reason to hope that suspects will soon be in custody.
