Kara Calls to 'Help' Arab MKs
Israel should help suffering Arab Members of Knesset, MK Ayoub Kara (Likud) said Thursday evening.
“The Minister of the Interior must assist those Members of Knesset who are unhappy in Israel to be freed from the heavy yoke of Israeli citizenship,” he said. The minister “should turn to his Palestinian counterpart and ask that they be given honorary Palestinian citizenship, so that they can serve their people in Palestine.”
Kara's suggestion was made in response to meetings between MKs from Arab parties and African diplomats in which the former urged the latter to recognize a Palestinian Authority state in September – a position directly opposed to that held by Israel's government, which is working against the unilateral statehood bid.
Previously, the deputy minister for development of the Negev and Galilee said of the MKs' behavior, “They are inciting against the state. There is no precedent for this anywhere in the world.... If a Mexican tried something like this in the U.S. Congress, they would take a whip and drive him out of there.”
He later explained his objection to the push for a unilateral PA state, “A unilateral declaration of independence means ending the possibility of reaching a regional peace agreement.” In addition, he said, it means the Oslo Accords will no longer be in effect, “with all that implies.”
