The IAF is back in Romanian skies, a year after a fatal accident there took the lives of six IAF airmen and a Romanian observer. For the past two weeks, IAF aircraft have again been training for various military scenarios in the eastern European country where about 800,000 Jews used to live in shtetls and ghettos until the Holocaust.

The aircraft taking part in the training were IAF Hercules transport planes from the "Elephants" Squadron and from the "Knights of the Yellow Bird" Squadron.
Senior IAF officers visited the units training in Romania, took part in the training and met senior officers from the Romanian Air Force.
The six IDF airmen who died aboard the helicopter that crashed in Romania were Maj. Yahel Keshet (33), Lt. Nir Lakrif (25), Lt.-Col. Avner Goldman (48), Lt.-Col. Daniel Shifenbauer (43), Maj. Lior Shai (28) and Sgt.-Maj. Oren Cohen (24).
