Two weeks after policeman Shlomi Asulin died of his wounds, the State Prosecution has told the High Court that it intends to charge his killer with murder.
The killer, Rateb Abu-Asa, had been convicted of manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years in jail three years ago.
Asulin had caught Abu Asa, a car thief from the Bedouin town of Aroar, during a police raid. Abu Asa then stabbed him in the head with a screwdriver. The screwdriver entered Asulin's brain stem.
Asulin was hospitalized at Tel Hashomer and has been unconscious for four years. In the course of the last year his condition deteriorated.
