Wednesday evening at 6:30 P.M. marks the start of the final game in the Yulis Basketball Tournament that pits teams from the former Gush Katif communities against each other.

The tournament has been held annually for the past 20 years and was always a central event for Gush Katif's youth. Every year, after Tisha B'Av, the best teams got together for a Final Four tourney.

The last Yulis Tournament to be held on the soil of Gush Katif took place in 2005, just as IDF soldiers were beginning to evict Jews from the settlement bloc. The tournament was documented in a film, Home Team, which later received accolades.

Semi-finals are being held between Netzer Hazani, Neve Dekalim, Ganei Tal and Gan Ur. The finalists will play at 6:30 P.M at Yad Mordechai.
The tournament is named for Itai Refael Yulis, a resident of Gush Katif who died from cancer fourteen years ago.
