The Israeli Civil Administration assisted Thursday (July 21) in coordinating the shipment of a Pablo Picasso painting from Ramallah to the Netherlands.

The IDF Blog reported that for the past four weeks, the International Academy of Art Palestine (IAAP) in Ramallah exhibited the $4.3 million , “Buste de Femme” (1943), allowing residents of the Palestinian Authority to view what the Blog said was the most valuable work of art to have ever been exhibited in the area.

Exhibited from June 24 to July 21, “Buste de Femme” is a 100”x80” oil on canvas painting that was on loan from the Van Abbemuseum in the Netherlands. Citing "special circumstances," Israel waived the mandatory 15% security deposit on important works of art.

The Israeli Civil Administration said it was "pleased to contribute to this endeavor and will continue to assist in all future artistic and cultural efforts."

An Israeli Civil Administration International Liaison Officer, along with Dutch diplomats and representatives of the Van Abbemuseum, will ensure the orderly passage of the painting toward its destination.

The IDF describes the Israeli Civil Administration as "a government and IDF body, which runs local Palestinian civil matters and cares for their well-being."
