The IDF struck at Gaza terrorists for the fourth day in a row Saturday, sending a clear message that Israel will not tolerate the escalation of rocket attacks on the western Negev.

At least one armed terrorist was killed in a pre-dawn retaliatory attack Saturday after soldiers spotted a terrorist cell preparing to launch Kassam rockets from east of Gaza City.

Hamas and other terrorist organizations have attacked Israeli citizens with at least 16 rocket and mortar shells since the beginning of the month, causing property damage. In Addition, soldier was lightly wounded by a roadside bomb.

Israel’s retaliatory measures have included direct hits on tunnel built for terrorist to stage kidnappings, weapons manufacturing facilities and rocket-laucnhing cells.

IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz met with Air Force and Gaza ground commanders Friday to discuss reprisals to the escalation of terror.

One possible reason for the sudden increase in the attacks on Israel is the dispute between de facto Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, both of whom have failed to follow through on a unity agreement. Haniyeh previously has held his fire as a tactic to win favor with Abbas, who is promoting in image of using “diplomatic moves” to force Israel to agree to his demands for creating the Palestinian Authority as an independent country within Israel’s borders.
