MK Levin Calls Urgent Meeting Over Zoabi’s Behavior
MK Yariv Levin (Likud), who chairs the Knesset’s House Committee, on Thursday called the committee for an urgent meeting regarding the behavior of MK Hanin Zoabi at the Knesset plenum on Wednesday.
Zoabi flew into an uncontrollable rage during a speech by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu said that he expected Opposition parties to protest issues such as the participation by Zoabi in the violent Gaza flotilla in 2010.
The remark threw Zoabi into a rage, during which she pushed a Knesset guard who was escorting her out.
Levin’s urgent meeting will be held on Tuesday. Representatives of the Knesset guards and Knesset management have been invited, as well as MK Zoabi herself.
Explaining his decision to call the meeting, Levin said: “No member of the Knesset is above the law. MK Zoabi’s behavior is staining the names of other members of the Knesset who respect the Knesset procedures.”
Earlier on Thursday, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin filed a complaint against Zoabi with the Knesset Ethics committee for her behavior.
In the complaint Rivlin wrote, “Zoabi’s behavior speaks for itself. Attacking a Knesset employee, let alone a lady working in the plenum, is an unprecedented act demanding the intervention of the Ethics Committee.”
