As the Freedom Flotilla 2 prepares to set sail to challenge Israel's blockade on Gaza, the IDF spokesperson's office has released an illustrative video detailing the amount of goods Israel transfers to the inhabitants of Gaza on any given week.

According to the IDF approximately 6,000 tons of goods (around 260 truckloads) are transferred into Gaza on a daily basis via land at the Kerem Shalom border crossing.

For purposes of comparison, the 2010 Gaza flotilla carried only 4,000 tons of goods - mostly expired medical equipment - or two-thirds of the amount of goods that Israel transfers to Gaza on a daily basis.

The IDF explained Israel ensures that approximately 1,248 trucks carrying 34,012 tons of goods reach the population of the Gaza Strip on a weekly basis, including: 385 trucks containing products such as baby food, poultry and vegetables; 340 trucks carrying construction materials such as cement and wood; and 523 trucks carrying miscellaneous goods such as medicine, clothing, electrical equipment and hygiene products.

The full capacity of the Kerem Shalom crossing (400 trucks per day and 12,000 tons per day) is never fully utilized due to a lack of demand for goods from the inhabitants of Gaza, the IDF says.

The IDF has implored activists desiring to donate goods to the inhabitants of Gaza to do so through the humanitarian aid organizations which regularly operate in gaza and avoid provocative and inefficient avenues such as the Gaza flotillas.

The lawful naval blockade on Gaza by Israel is due to repeated attacks at the citizens of Israel by Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and other terrorist organizations operating in the region.
