PA History: Deceased

The Palestinian Authority now considers the ill-fated Oslo Accords, peace agreements signed by the PA with Israel, to be a “catastrophe” like the wars of Independence in 1948 and the Six-Day War in 1967.

The Palestinian Media Watch organization, which monitors Arab media, reported that  the official  Palestinian Authority daily newspaper recently featured a cartoon depicting a man preparing a headstone for a grave of "The deceased: 'Arab History.’”

He wonders what date to inscribe to complete the text and considers 1948, when Arabs waged war against Israel after the 1947 Partition Plan re-establishing the Jewish state; 1967, the date of the Six Day War, or 1993, the date that Yasser Arafat signed the Oslo Accords with Israel as part of the “peace process.” Other dates that the Arab ponders are 2003, when the United States invaded Iraq, and 2010, which may refer to the flotilla clash between Navy commandos and IHH terrorists.

Another sign that the Oslo Agreements were a “catastrophe,” or “Nakba” in Arabic, is a PA video song showing children sitting around a table and drawing the dates of 1948, 1967 and 1993.

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has told Western leaders that the PA is committed to the Oslo Agreements, although his demands for a non-negotiated settlement for a Palestinian Authority country negate the Oslo document.
