A deputy company commander in a top IDF unit collapsed and died Sunday at the Tel Nof Israel Air Force base. The officer, aged 22, served in the Maglan unit, which specializes in operations behind enemy lines.

The officer had come to the base for training but collapsed when he got out of his car, before the training session had begun. He had complained of a headache a short time before the collapse. He was not known to have any special medical problems.

Medics who arrived on the scene gave him first aid and evacuated him to Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot where unsuccessful attempts were made to stabilize his condition.

IDF sources were quoted as saying that the death is being investigated, and that it was most likely caused by an undiagnosed medical condition.
