The government has accepted a Peace Now appeal and told the High Court it will destroy three new homes under construction in the Jewish community of Migron in Samaria (Shomron).

Peace Now, a left-wing group sponsored and financed largely by Jews inside and outside of Israel, alleged to the court that the homes are being built on private Arab land, despite the fact the petition was filed by the organization and not by the Arabs who supposedly are involved.

Construction began on the new homes after the end of the 10-month building freeze last year, although a de facto freeze continues in most of Judea and Samaria.

The government reply to the High Court included a statement by the Defense Ministry that it will not allow Migron to build new homes and expand the community as long as no agreement has been reached for the future of Migron, which has been under constant threat of government demolitions.

Council of Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria chairman Danny Dayan responded, “There is no greater injustice than to destroy homes of Jews while there is a total lack of enforcement against illegal building by Arabs in Area C,” lands designated in the Oslo Accords as being under Israeli control, as opposed to Area A, where the Palestinian Authority has been given control.

“When I see Arabs united from one end of the spectrum to the other against Israel, there is no worse injustice that to try to divide Jews among themselves.”
