The roughly 20,000 students in the AMIT school system will dedicate their learning this week to the memory of the five members of the Fogel family who were brutally murdered in Itamar on Friday night.

Dr. Amnon Eldar, head of the Amit schools, said in a letter to principals, “Many students are finding it hard to learn, and hard to cope with what  has happened. With a tragedy this severe we cannot, and must not, simply wait until it is forgotten.

“We must turn it into an impetus for acts of kindness, and for study in the honor of the souls of those murdered al kiddush Hashem,” he concluded.

In many Amit schools, students have already created memorials for the family, where they lit candles and recited psalms. Events planned in advance of the festive holiday of Purim have been postponed by a few days, and will begin with a recitation of Psalms in memory of the Fogels.

Rabbi Ehud Fogel's sister, Michal Cohen, works in the Amit branch in Sderot.
