Israel last year distributed NIS 90,000 worth of medical equipment to Palestinian Authority Arabs with disabilities – an amount to be surpassed in 2011.
In 2010, the Civil Administration announced the availability of the special funds for PA Arabs with special needs. After a review by a welfare committee, dozens of applications – in fact all of them – were approved. Wheelchairs, hearing devices, prosthetics and other types of medical equipment were all provided with the funds.
This year the Civil Administration announced an increase in the funding. Applications are invited from private individuals as well as NGOs and international organizations on behalf of PA Arabs with disabilities.
Requests are to be sent to the Civil Administration's Staff Officer for Welfare, and are to include background information, medical history and personal information about the applicant, as well as relevant information about the needed equipment.
The Civil Administration of Judea and Samaria is responsible for administering and coordinating civilian and humanitarian needs in the area. Its various staff offices work to fulfill these needs alongside the Palestinian Authority and the PA Arab population, as well as the IDF and Israeli authorities along with the international organizations and NGOs.
“The Civil Administration is committed to continue improving the ability of answering the need of Palestinians requiring medical assistance in the West Bank and anticipates processing and approving many more such requests in 2011,” said the IDF Spokesman.
