Major-General Yoav Galant Monday withdrew his motion to the High Court against the decision by the Prime Minister and Defense Minister to cancel his appointment as IDF Chief of Staff.

The High Court was supposed to hear the motion Tuesday but after Galant withdrew it, the case is essentially closed. An earlier motion by the Green Movement against Galant's appointment - because of allegedly improper expansion of his private estate - is now also moot, and the judges have ordered it canceled.

The Cabinet voted Sunday to cancel Galant's appointment, with only one minister - Infrastructures Minister Uzi Landau - voting against the decision.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Turkel Committee for High-Level Appointments will discuss the candidacy of Maj.-Gen. Benny Ganz for the position of Chief of Staff. The appointment is to go into effect on Monday.
