Sderot residents, battered by thousands of rocket and mortar shell attacks over the past 10 years, are bracing for a new escalation from Hamas-controlled Gaza.

Hamas and allied terrorist groups have fired dozens of missiles and mortars the past three weeks, several of them causing injuries. “People know there will be an escalation soon, whether it is in a few days or weeks," Eliran Chen, of the Sderot Media Center, told Israel National News.

“Erez,” a member of a nearby kibbutz, said people in Sderot still are afraid of a repeat of the barrage of rocket attacks that paralyzed the western Negev town for years until the three-week Operation Cast Lead counterterrorist campaign, which ended two years ago this month.

“We need to change something in Gaza to stop all of the rocket attacks,” Erez stated.
