The IDF is Israel's most trusted public institution, according to a poll of 1,000 Israelis conducted by the Transparency International. The organization polled more than 91,500 people in 86 countries for its Global Corruption Barometer.

Participants ranked each of several public institutions, including the army, the Knesset, NGOs, the police, political parties, and the media, on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the most corrupt.

The IDF was ranked at 2.6, and was followed by the court system and NGOs, both of which were ranked at 2.8. Ranked most corrupt were political parties, at 4.5, followed by the Knesset and the Rabbinate, each at 4.

Also ranked were the police, at 3.5, civil servants, at 3.9, business, at 3.4, and the media, at 3.2.

The findings follow a poll conducted by researchers at Haifa University and Ben-Gurion University several months ago that found that the Israeli public's trust in the IDF and security services rose between 2008 and 2009.

Researchers found that in 2008, those polled ranked their trust of the IDF at 3.61 out of 5, with 5 being the highest level of trust. In 2009, that number rose to 3.89. In 2008, the Shin Ben (Israel Security Agency) got 3.88 in trust, while in 2009, the average person ranked their trust at 4.01.
