The foreign affairs and defense cabinet heard bad news Wednesday as Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Yaalon revealed that incitement in PA media is on the rise. Incitement has grown significantly more frequent in recent months in official media, in mosques, and in the school system, he said.
Itamar Marcus, the director of Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), confirmed Yaalon's report in a conversation with Arutz Sheva's Hebrew-language news service. PA media continued to incite against Israel even as PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for direct negotiations, he said.
One of the more common themes is that of teaching the PA Arab public that all of Israel is “Palestine.”
On the eve of peace talks Fatah TV, controlled by Abbas, referred to Haifa, Yafo, Akko, and other Israeli cities as “occupied Palestine.”
Another TV program featured a student who claimed that “Palestine is 27,000 square kilometers” - his statement indicating that “Palestine” includes all of Israel, and not only Judea, Samaria and Gaza. During Ramadan, a PA TV quiz show coached contestants to refer to Jerusalem, Haifa, and Yafo as “cities in Palestine.”
PA leaders have not only allowed incitement to continue in mosques and on television, but have actively incited against Israel themselves, Marcus noted. Individual ministers and the PA as a whole have praised deceased terrorists who murdered Israeli civilians.
Over Ramadan, PA officials handed out medals of honor to the families of terrorists sitting in Israeli prisons, Marcus said. One woman, who has four sons all in jail for terrorist attacks, was given the prize of “PA guardian.”
When Fatah terrorist Amin Al-Hindi, a senior planner of the Munich Olympics massacre, died this in August, his funeral was attended by many PA leaders, including Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. Several senior officials were also present as a square in downtown Ramallah was named in honor of Dalal Mughrabi, the terrorist who led the Coastal Road Massacre, in which 37 Israeli civilians were murdered.
