A simulated plane crash, burning buses, scattered bodies and lots of smoke were part of a disaster drill Monday to prepare for a tragedy that Ben Gurion airport hopes never will happen.

Monday’s exercise at the international airport included security and rescue units. The crash of a passenger jet was simulated by burning tires, creating intense flames and dense smoke as 1.500 firemen rescue workers and emergency teams worked to put out the fire, treat the would-be victims and maintain order.
