Yom Kippur Forecast: Cool and Cloudy
This year's Yom Kippur will be a relatively easy one for those who are fasting, weather forecasters said Friday morning. The day is expected to be overcast and cool.
There is a chance of light rain in the north and center of the country.
On Friday afternoon temperatures will remain high in some parts of the country, particularly Eilat, the southern Negev, and the Jordan River Valley. Cooler weather will arrive Saturday.
On Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise significantly.
Yom Kippur will begin on Friday before sunset and end on Saturday night. Many Jews will observe the day – the holiest of the year – by fasting and reciting special prayers confessing their sins and asking forgiveness.
The IDF will temporarily shut down crossings between Palestinian Authority-controlled territories and Israeli cities in order to prevent terrorist attacks. Terrorists often time murderous attacks to coincide with Jewish holidays.
Police will maintain a presence in the mixed Arab-Jewish city of Akko, where violent riots broke out on Yom Kippur two years ago after a group of local Arabs falsely reported that Jews had murdered an Arab driver. City officials said they expect the day to pass quietly.
