The two left on Tuesday to hike the Villarrica Traverse in Villarrica national park, and were supposed to return Thursday, but have not been seen since. Their friends reported their absence to the Foreign Ministry.
The Harel insurance company was informed, and began search efforts. While an Israeli team makes its way to Chile, the company is using local teams to begin the search already. The teams are searching by land and air.
Foreign Ministry workers stated that the young hikers are currently presumed to be alive and well. It is likely that the two encountered harsh weather during the hike and took cover, leading to a delay in their return, they said.
It is winter in Villarrica, and the park is currently covered in snow.
