Israel National News visited The 140 Characters Conference ("#140conf"), which took place on Sunday at the Afeka College of Engineering in Tel Aviv, and spoke with the event's organizer and founder Jeff Pulver.
Since the launch of the #140conf events, conferences have taken place in New York City, Los Angeles and London. During 2009 the conferences explored the effects of Twitter on a wide range of topics including, celebrities, media, advertising, politics, music, education, public safety and public diplomacy.
The organizers of the #140conf events explain that they provide a platform for the worldwide Twitter community to listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time Internet on business.
The event in Tel Aviv began with a “Breakfast with Jeff Pulver and Friends." The participants then took a look at what Pulver defined as “The State of NOW” with a specific focus on three topic areas: Twitter, Facebook, and the emerging Real-Time Internet
The format of #140conf Tel Aviv followed the style of past #140conf events - most of the individual talks were for only 10 minutes, while “featured” talks were as long as 15 minutes, and the panel discussions ran for exactly 20 minutes.
