We will continue to work to establish the neighborhood of Nofei Benaya despite the weakness of our political leaders.

A 10 kilometer race to honor the memory of Major Benaya Rhein, an Israeli soldier who fell in battle during the Second Lebanon War against Hizbulllah, was held on Friday in Karnei Shomron, located in Samaria. Some 350 runners from around the country participated in the half-marathon, sponsored the Karnei Shomron local authority. The race was attended by local council chairman Herzl Ben-Ari, members of the Rhein family and community residents.

Ben-Ari said that the participation of hundreds of athletes in the race, including entire army units, was testimony to the continuing desire for preservation of the heritage of Israel’s ancestors. He further stated that the community would make every effort to build - and then include on the route of the race - the new Nofei Benaya neighborhood, named in honor of Major Rhein’s memory.

Shimon Rhein, father of Benaya, said the even, where thousands of runners and spectators honored the memory of his son, displays a great national spirit and belies the apparent weaknesses evident today in Israel’s political establishment. “We will continue to work to establish the neighborhood of Nofei Benaya despite the weakness of our political leaders," he said.
