'Moderate’ PA Leader: Clinton Is a Liar

(IsraelNN.com) A top advisor to PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, considered to be a “moderate” and a peace partner by the U.S. government, has charged that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is a “liar” who is being bribed by “Zionists.”

Omar Hilmi Al-Ghul, an advisor to Fayyad and columnist for a PA daily made the comments in an article translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

Under the headline, "Clinton, Why Must You Lie?" he wrote, "Why is Mrs. Clinton lying to herself, to the American people, and to [other] world nations by twisting the truth and accusing the Palestinians of being an obstacle to a [peaceful] arrangement?!

"Why, Mrs. Hillary? How much did the Zionists bribe you, and what weight does AIPAC [American Israel Public Affairs Committee] carry in your decisions and inclinations? Have you asked yourself who is occupying whose land? Which side is plundering the land, murdering [its] inhabitants, sowing death, violence, and terror, and destroying human civilization in the region?”

He vowed to Clinton that the PA “will never submit itself to your or your administration's rationale of resuming negotiations while construction in the settlements continues."

Reflecting a growing determination in the PA to reject Israel and American calls for a resumption of negotiations for turning the PA into a recognized country, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas recently charged on the Alarabiya website that the United States’ position is “unreasonable” and that Israel must announce a permanent freeze on construction for Jews in eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.

PA Presidential Speaker Nabil Abu Rudeina told al-Hayat, “Washington cannot compel Israel to freeze settlement [construction] because it is not pressuring it enough. If the U.S. administration cannot persuade Israel to freeze the settlements, how will it force it to withdraw from the West Bank and East Jerusalem?"

Other PA media have sided with the no-compromise position. In a column in the PA daily al-Ayyam, Talal Awkal wrote, "Mrs. Clinton has poured oil on the fire” by praising Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for “his opposition to a definitive freeze on settlements in Jerusalem and insistence on continuing the construction of 3,000 housing units” in Judea and Samaria.

"The U.S. administration has perpetrated a great deception…and gave a powerful push to the escalation of Palestinian and Arab extremism,” he continued.

"Mrs. Clinton has [always] been known as an Israeli sympathizer – as a presidential candidate and then as secretary of state. This time, however, she has showed her inexperience in political action.”
