Long-time MK Rabbi Shlomo Lorentz passed away Sunday night at the age of 91.  A 33-year Knesset Member of the Agudat Yisrael party, Rabbi Lorentz was Chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee during the tenure of Menachem Begin as Prime Minister.

Considered one of the top politician/public figures in the hareidi-religious sector since the establishment of the State, Rabbi Lorentz served in nine consecutive Knessets, from 1951 until 1984. He was then appointed Chairman of the Bank of Israel Advisory Council - and as such, his signature is imprinted on all of Israel's paper currency of the past 20 years.

Together with MK Moshe Gafni and the late MK Rabbi Avraham Ravitz, Rabbi Lorentz was involved in the formation of the Degel HaTorah breakawayparty. Today, Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael are the two factions of the United Torah Judaism party.

Hundreds of people participated in his funeral on Monday afternoon at the Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.
