September saw a sharp rise in the number of Arab terror attacks against Israel, according to statistics released Sunday by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet).
There was a total of 95 terror attacks in September, compared with 53 in August. The most noticeable rise was in Gaza, where there were 45 attacks, compared with 19 the previous month. There was an especially sharp rise in the number of rocket attacks: 17 such attacks were carried out, compared with two in August. Most of the August attacks took place in the second half of the month.
There was a spike in the number of terror acts in Jerusalem as well: 12 such attacks took place in September, up from two in August and two in July.
The number of injuries did not reflect the rise in the number of attacks, however. Two Israelis were wounded in the September attacks, down from four in August. On September 27, a citizen was hurt when a fire bomb was thrown at him in Jerusalem. On September 29, Yair Hirsch of Kida was wounded when terrorists fired at his car near Shilo.
In Judea and Samaria, the number of attacks went up from 32 in August to 38 in September. The large majority of terror attacks involved the hurling of fire bombs.
