A number of students from the Israeli-Arab town of Kfar Kassem were shot Thursday after gunmen engaged in a shooting spree aimed at their school bus. The attack took place near the village of Kfar Bara.
One student was killed in the incident and a number were wounded. Doctors report that the wounded students' lives do not appear to be in danger.
The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Amjad Shawana. The town of Kfar Kassem has announced a three-day mourning period in his memory.
Police have arrested five youths from the Israeli-Arab town of Jaljulya in connection with the attack. The five are suspected of opening fire on the bus using an automatic weapon in a revenge attack over a fight with students from Kfar Kassem two days earlier.
The fight earlier this week began when a student expressed romantic interest in a young woman, angering several other young men. Amjad Shawana was not involved in the altercation.
