MK Yaakov “Ketzaleh” Katz (Ichud Leumi – National Union) issued a scathing condemnation of the Likud party on Friday, and particularly of Likud MKs who profess nationalist beliefs. Likud politicians such as Effie Eitam and MK Tzipi Hotovely are used to convince the political right to vote Likud, while in fact the Likud leadership has no intention of supporting right-wing policies, he said.

"The phenomenon is reminiscent of the pig, who puts forth his hoof and says, 'See, I am kosher...' He hides the fact that he does not chew his cud!” Ketzaleh said, referring to the fact that the pig is the only animal that appears to be kosher at first glance, but is in fact not kosher.

"To the pioneers, the religious Zionists, those who sacrifice to settle the land, Netanyahu sent Gilad Erdan, Danny Danon, Ze'ev Elkin... He uses them to call on those he intends to harm to vote for him,” Ketzaleh said in explanation of what he termed Netanyahu's “method.” The method worked, he said – more than half of the religious-Zionist community voted for Netanyahu.

After using his nationalist candidates to gain support, Netanyahu betrayed his voters, Ketzaleh said. “One second after he was elected, Netanyahu trampled the most basic of the Jewish people's eternal values. What Sharon managed to do with help from Feiglin, Livnat, Yisrael Katz, Silvan Shalom, Hanegbi, Mofaz, Livni and Olmert is a stain that will never be erased, a crime, a disaster. And now, using Elkin, Hotovely and the rest, who strengthen his position, Netanyahu continues with the same crimes,” he accused.

“Life in Biblical Israel is frozen, and those who allow the situation to continue are the ones he uses as the pig's hoof.”

Despite public statements promising to stand up for the Likud's core values, and to reject a Judea and Samaria building freeze, the Likud party's “rightist” MKs have no power to stop Netanyahu, Katz said. “They talk about trying to convince Bibi... They will never break up the party,” he said. “[Netanyahu] can do what he's doing only because he knows that they will never leave the Likud.”

Refusing to leave the Likud means betraying Jewish values, he asserted. “What it means when Hotovely and Elkin and their kind say they will never leave the Likud is that even if the Torah is uprooted, if the land of Israel is uprooted, the Likud party is more important to them than the things that the people of Israel has sacrificed for throughout the generations.”

Katz ended his criticism of Likud nationalists with a warning: as long as Netanyahu is convinced that his own power is secure, he will continue to forbid Jews to build houses, and to betray his voters and the Likud party platform.
