Terrorists launched a Kassam rocket at Ashkelon on Sunday afternoon and attacked an IDF patrol in the morning only hours after IDF planes destroyed two smuggling tunnels in Gaza.

The Kassam landed just short of the coastal city, causing no injuries or damage. It was the second rocket attack in two days, reminding southern residents of the daily rocket barrage they were subject to before the IDF launched Operation Cast Lead in December.

Earlier in the morning, a routine IDF force was patrolling the Gaza border near Khan Younis when terrorists set off a large explosive device a short distance away from them. No soldiers were injured in the incident.

Only a few hours earlier Israeli Air Force planes had bombed two smuggling tunnels leading from Egypt to Rafiah. The IDF reported it scored direct hits in the attack.

The bombing run came in response to a Kassam rocket Gaza terrorists fired at the Negev Saturday night. The rocket struck near Kibbutz Alumim in the Negev but caused no injuries or damage. It was the first rocket attack in several weeks.

Last Monday, IDF forces foiled a large terrorist attack when soldiers identified a group of 10-12 terrorists, some on explosive-laden horses, heading towards the border fence under mortar cover fire. The troops shot at the terrorists killing four, while the rest of the attacking group fled.
