Gaza terrorists fired a short-range “Kassam” rocket at the western Negev on Sunday night. The rocket hit an open area within the Shaar HaNegev regional council, causing no injuries.
The attack followed three days of quiet. On Wednesday of last week, Gaza terrorists fired a volley of mortar shells towards the western Negev, but did not cause injury.
The IDF responded to Wednesday's attacks by bombing three smuggling tunnels between southern Gaza and the northern Sinai Peninsula.
Sunday's attack took place shortly after residents of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, in the Gaza belt area, held a memorial for Jimmy Kedoshim. Kedoshim, 48, was killed one year ago by a mortar shell fired from Gaza as he worked in his garden.
As Kedoshim's yartzeit came to a close, residents of the area in which he lived were warned of an imminent attack by the “Color Red” rocket warning system.
Despite the recent attacks, security officials report that the Gaza belt area has been relatively calm. April had the fewest reported attacks of any month so far this year, officials said Sunday. Attacks have been relatively infrequent following the counterterror Cast Lead operation in Gaza in January.
